Fun Fact: She’s known to be just as animated as the movies she watches…while she’s watching them.

Brenda originated from small town Nebraska, has been around the world (almost literally) and is now loving life in Virginia! She spends her time being a singer, runner, crochet’er, hugger, movie-watcher and picture taker. At all times, striving to better receive God’s Love & share this love with others. As a Team Director of the FOCUS Team at UVA, she’s active in being present to students on Grounds, leading & organizing small groups, mentoring student missionaries & praying hard core for everyone involved. “We love because He first loved us.” – 1 John 4:19

Lisa Driscoll

Served at UVA since Fall 2015
Undergraduate degrees in Broadcast Journalism and Vocal Performance from the University of Maryland
Email: lisa.driscoll@focus.org
Fun Fact: I can sing with my mouth closed. My specialty is the national anthem, followed by select Disney songs.

I am excited to get to serve at UVA for my second year as a full-time missionary with FOCUS. A native of Boulder, Colorado, I like long walks in the mountains and spending quality time with Jesus in the Adoration chapel and with friends. Primarily through small group studies and discipleship, I desire answer God’s call to invite students into a personal relationship with Him and His Church. It is a huge honor to get to share life’s joys, suffering, and everything in between with anyone willing to come along for the ride.

Marta Stangl

First Year FOCUS Missionary

Served at UVA since Fall 2016
Undergraduate degree in Medical Sciences from the University of Oklahoma
FOCUS Missionary since 2016
Email: marta.stangl@focus.org
Fun Fact: I am one of 32 cousins—on my mom’s side!

I grew up on a farm in a small town in Oklahoma as the youngest of 4. I enjoy exercising, spending time with new and old friends, reading, and crafting things on Pinterest. I also really like puns! I am so blessed to serve here at UVa as a missionary to form disciples of Christ. I hope to seek and to know God better this year and to share the love of Christ with all the students I encounter on grounds.

Ben Horn

First Year FOCUS Missionary

Served at UVA since Fall 2016
Undergraduate degree in Catholic Studies from the Marian University
FOCUS Missionary since 2016
Email: benjamin.horn@focus.org
First Year FOCUS Missionary
Fun Fact: I attended SEEK before it was called SEEK

I’ve had so many different titles in my life, but I’m proud to say that I am now a missionary disciple. I started out as a mechanical engineering student at University of Kentucky, before changing my life in 2010 and becoming a seminarian. I ended up leaving the seminary (obviously), but I am constantly in a state of discernment – does God want me to get married or become a priest? Either way, I’m glad to be serving the UVA community as a missionary and friend. Come talk to me or email me if you want to play Smash Brothers, watch football, or just hang out.

What a time to be alive.

Thomas Bernhardt

First Year FOCUS Missionary

Served at UVA since Fall 2016
Undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois
FOCUS Missionary since 2016
Email: thomas.bernhardt@focus.org
Fun Fact: Sorry I am not fun.

I grew up in Illinois and went to the University of Illinois so this is my first time living outside of Illinois and the thing I have noticed most is that I really do not like hills. I love talking about sports, space, and deep theological topics. I have three brothers and two new sister-in-laws and I am super excited to have new brothers and sisters in Virginia. Put me on the hot seat and ask me more questions and I would love to tell you more about my life. Most importantly I am excited to run alongside my brothers and sisters here at UVa with all of our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ.
